Our oceans have been absorbing an extraordinary amount of the carbon dioxide that we have been pumping into our atmosphere (up to 90%) and this has led to ocean warming and acidification which threatens marine ecosystems and is the cause of mass coral bleaching.
But there are reasons to be hopeful! Wide scale marine reforestation - the planting and farming of seaweed kelp forests - can help the pendulum swing the other way to bring back lost ecosystems and regenerate rivers and oceans.
Here are some suggested ways that you can learn more about, contribute to, or be involved in, the movement!
International
Ocean Wise
Ocean Wise is a Canadian not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to empower communities and individuals to take action to protect and restore our world's oceans.
- Donate to help plant and restore kelp! For as little as CAD $21 you can help plant and restore 50 kelp plants

The Climate Foundation
The Climate Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to reversing global warming in our lifetime through nature based solutions such as Marine Permaculture and Biochar.
Australia
Sea the Weed Campaign
Regenerators have partnered with the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) and marine biologists at Operation Crayweed to regenerate the underwater forests of the Sydney metropolitan coastline.
The goal is to raise $1million to realise this vision by selling one of the world's first, custom-designed, fully compostable hoodies made from seaweed.
You can also learn more about the price of the hoodie and how it has been made. We recognise that the price point of these hoody’s are high, given the process of producing a compostable, regenerative seaweed hoodie that includes a donation to the reforestation project. If you are unable to buy one but would still love to support the project - please share with your networks and help spread the word!
Operation Crayweed
Operation Crayweed’s mission is to bring crayweed back to reefs where it once flourished and to re-establish this essential habitat and food source for Sydney’s coastal marine biodiversity.
